PSA
Screening and the Radical Prostatectomy
Multiple organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control,
have decided against using the PSA test as a screening test for prostate
cancer, because they say that screening has not been shown to prolong
life. What they are really saying is that the radical prostatectomy
doesn’t work for prostate cancer, because the radical prostatectomy
has been the linchpin treatment for the disease. Sadly, the radical
prostatectomy has never been shown to prolong life in randomized
controlled studies.
